Spider-Man: Brand New Day Swings Past $2.5 Billion, and Peter Parker Has Never Been More Alone
A Darker, Older Peter Parker, and a Box Office Run Nobody Predicted
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker hit theaters on July 31, 2026, and it has turned into one of the biggest box office stories in movie history. The film has climbed past $2.5 billion worldwide, a total that puts it behind only Avengers: Endgame and Avatar on the all time list, and it made the leap on a reported $225 million budget. Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi, takes over the franchise and steers it toward a grittier, more adult chapter, positioned as the start of a new run of Spider-Man films.
Anyone curious about the numbers, the reviews, and the full credits can find them on the film’s Rotten Tomatoes page.
Nobody Remembers Him, So Spider-Man Is All He Has Left
The story picks up four years after No Way Home. Doctor Strange’s memory spell did its job too well, and Peter now lives completely alone, with no family, no money, and no one in his life who knows who he is. That includes MJ, played by Zendaya, and Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, both of whom walk past him without a flicker of recognition. With nothing else to anchor him, Peter pours everything into being a full time, round the clock Spider-Man.
That kind of life has a cost. The strain on his body and mind sets off a dangerous physical change, and as he struggles to understand what his powers are turning into, a mysterious telepathic threat starts digging into the past he can barely remember. At the center of it is an early MCU version of Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink, whose search puts everyone he still cares about in danger.

The film leans into a grounded, street level version of New York City while still finding room for classic Marvel crossovers. Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey has drawn some of the strongest praise, with her performance built around telepathy and the loneliness that comes with it. Jon Bernthal appears as Frank Castle, the Punisher, whose brutal worldview works as a direct counterweight to Peter’s moral code. Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner, bringing back the calm Smart Hulk and a far more frightening, aggressive Savage Hulk.
The supporting lineup also includes Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, and Marisa Tomei, with Michael Giacchino on score and the writing team of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers behind the script.
