Farva Somehow Gets Engaged, and Thorny Loses His Mind

Nearly a decade after the last one, Broken Lizard is back with a premise built entirely around chaos nobody saw coming: Farva rescues Sarita, played by New Girl’s Hannah Simone, from an exploding car wreck, the two fall for each other almost instantly, and suddenly Farva is engaged to the sister of fellow trooper Thorny. The wedding that follows goes fully over the top, and Thorny spends most of the movie trying to sabotage it out of sheer horror at the idea of Farva as family.

The best beat in that thread is Thorny walking Farva into a meeting with his conservative Indian parents fully expecting disaster, only to watch Farva show up dressed to the nines and completely charm his way into their blessing anyway. It’s the kind of reversal that’s been Broken Lizard’s whole thing since the first movie, Farva somehow succeeding through sheer obliviousness.

A New Boss, a Clueless Rookie, and a Smuggling Ring Hiding in Plain Sight

While the wedding spirals, the Vermont troopers are adjusting to a new commanding officer played by Nat Faxon and trying to break in a hopelessly unprepared Gen Z rookie played by Andrew Dismukes. That storyline collides with the wedding plot once the guys stumble onto a Canadian drug smuggling operation moving a fictional synthetic substance nicknamed Canadian Crystal, and eventually realize the wedding venue itself is the front for the whole operation.

That collision is the engine for the back half of the movie, with the bachelor party and the ceremony both dissolving into the kind of full scale physical comedy chaos the series has always leaned on to bring its plots together.

Same Immature, R-Rated DNA as the First Two

Nothing about the tone has been softened for a 2026 audience. Farva is still loud, gross, and the engine behind most of the movie’s chaos, and the film leans hard into pranks and physical gags in exactly the register longtime fans expect. The standout bit is a late movie gag where a character gets frozen solid inside a block of maple syrup, a direct, unmistakable riff on the Han Solo carbonite freeze from Star Wars, played completely straight for laughs.

The Post-Credits Gag Sets Up a Fourth Movie

True to Broken Lizard form, the credits bring back the fake trailer format the group has used before, this time teasing a hypothetical Super Troopers 4 centered on a hunt for buried treasure, with the retired captain, played by Brian Cox, leading the old squad after four million dollars in buried gold. Whether that ever becomes a real movie is anyone’s guess, but it’s exactly the kind of self aware bit that’s kept this cast’s chemistry feeling intact after all these years.

Why Broken Lizard Insisted on a Theatrical Release

It’s been nearly a decade since Super Troopers 2, and the full Broken Lizard lineup, Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, has stayed a genuine unit that whole time. The idea for this one reportedly started taking shape back on the set of the 2018 sequel, and it took years to land on a hook strong enough to justify bringing the squad back.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the group sat down with Collider to talk through getting the project made in an era where streaming dominates almost everything, and why putting this one in actual theaters mattered enough to fight for. It’s a rare thing for a broad comedy sequel at this stage to insist on the big screen rather than defaulting to a streaming drop, and that choice alone says something about how much this cast still believes in the franchise.
