Benefit comedy show returns to Newnan

Exit 47 Comedy Get Down is back and bringing bigger laughs to Newnan.

The second annual benefit show will be hosted by Newnan’s very own Sevonta, who starred on the TV network Nickelodeon.

The star ensemble includes Tony Tone from “Def Comedy Jam” making waves on HBO and BET. Vanessa Fraction is the hilarious lady from BET’s “ComicView.”

Mario Tory’s standing up in Comedy Central’s “Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City.” Finally, Joel Byars hosts the award-winning podcast “Hot Breath.” Byars returns this year.

A lot of (comedians) are very close with me,” Sevonta said. “Comedians help each other out just like how we’re trying to help the city up.”

All the proceeds go to Hope Global Initiative Newnan, a community dedicated to inspiring, equipping and empowering underserved families to develop the solutions they need for the challenges they face.

Sevonta says he was focused on aiding people impacted by the tornado but wants to help children moving forward.

Empowered 4 Life, Newnan Police Department and Newnan Kiwanis Club sponsored the event this year.

“I want Coweta County to continue to see how we can all come together for unity in our community,” said Derrick Teagle, director of Empowered 4 Life.

Teagle says the comedy show is a whole circle experience because Sevonta and his brother attended Empowered 4 Life as a youth. They have grown up in an environment of building up children to have beautiful futures. After college, they returned with an entrepreneurial spirit of being more involved in the community.

Prepare your lungs Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at Charles Wadsworth Auditorium 25 Jefferson St., Newnan. Regular tickets are $25, and V.I.P. is $40.
