Drake returned to the stage for the first time in years on Saturday night with his SiriusXM concert in New York City’s iconic Apollo Theater, marking his debut performance at the venue. The Canadian singer took the audience through a journey of his career, performing some of his biggest hits.
The 36 year old rapper also teased that he would be coming up with new music soon and hinted at a new tour this year, leaving fans excited. Continue reading to know what Drake had to say about his upcoming works and albums.
Drake Teases New Music During Concert at Apollo Theater
All through the show, Drake kept expressing his gratitude toward the audience. At the end of his set, he said, “I appreciate all of those people that stick by me. I know it’s like a cool thing … to be like ‘f**k Drake’ … but I deeply appreciate everybody for continuing to support us.”
The Her Loss artist then made an announcement, which everybody had been waiting for. He revealed that he is currently working on new music, and some of his projects are expected to be dropped this year.
“I’ve thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time, none of those things are stopping making music for you, so I’ll be here for you for a little bit at least. And I hope I can strike up more emotions for you, maybe this year. I might get bored and make another one; who knows!” Drake said.
The Singer also Hinted at a Summer Tour with 21 Savage
During the concert, Drake was also joined by his friend and frequent collaborator, 21 Savage, for a set. The two performed tracks from their 2022 album Her Loss, particularly Rich Flex, Privileged Rappers, Knife Talk, and Jimmy Cooks.
Drake then signaled that a joint tour could be happening with 21 Savage in the summer of 2023. “We’re gonna be out on the road this summer,” the singer said, adding, “This summer, man, I’m back on the road, $100 million for some shows.”
21 Savage then praised his friend and said, “Since the first day I met this (man in) 2015, every week at least I heard from him. ‘I’m checking on you, seeing how you doing, bro.’ And he helped me every step of my career behind the scenes.”
Drake Showcased his Journey through the Concert
Apart from the announcement of new music and tour, what left the audiences excited was the way the singer represented his life journey through the concert. The stage was transformed from Drake’s childhood bedroom to a record label boardroom to a bodega in New York City to showcase different phases of his life.
“Thank you for an incredible evening… I couldn’t have asked for a better first show back. I’ll be out and about on the road this year, so I hope to see a lot of the same faces. I know it’s cliché to say, but I would actually be absolutely nothing, face down in the mud, if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, so thank you,” Drake said in his address to the fans.
