Thursday Music Club will welcome pianist Gerald Lee | News, Sports, Jobs


WHEELING — Gerald Lee, a professor of piano at West Liberty University where he has been a full-time faculty member since 2002, will be the featured performer for the Thursday Music Club on Feb. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. at Char House on the Boulevard, located at 1055 E. Bethlehem Blvd., Wheeling.

Lee has performed solo recitals throughout the United States. His 2010 recital for the Charleston Chamber Music Society was lauded by the Charleston Daily Mail as an “overwhelming music success,” according to a club spokesperson.

“Gerald Lee upheld the Charleston Chamber Music Society’s reputation for bringing top-rated artists to its Christ Church United Methodist venue. Competition accolades include winning the 2009 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Auditions,” the spokesperson noted.

Lee is “passionate about piano teaching” and is grateful for his students’ accomplishments which include first-place awards in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Mountain State Collegiate Piano Competition held by the West Virginia Music Teachers Association.

The association recently honored Lee with the 2022 Teacher of the Year Award.

Members Mary Louise Green and Judy Szymialis will greet members and guests.

President Suzie McCormick will conduct a brief business meeting calling on Mary Ann Mysliwiec for the treasurer’s report and Judy Szymialis for the minutes from the December meeting.

The Thursday Music Club Chorus has resumed practices on Wednesdays at Elm Grove Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to noon under the direction of Anita Chops and accompanist Debbie Breiding.

The spring concert will be April 13 at 11 a.m. at Elm Grove Methodist Church with a catered lunch after the concert. A reservation is a must.

The Thursday Music Club youth auditions will be held on March 24 and March 25 at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church in Woodsdale.

The recital will be held April 2, beginning at 2 p.m. at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church. Notices have been sent out, and judges have been contacted. 

The Thursday Music Club Study Group will be held Feb. 13 at the Island Christian Church, beginning at 1 p.m. Carol Millard will be the presenter, and Emily Mayer will bring the snacks.
